A great gift for the couple-to-be

04.28.2010 / Etsy Finds / no comments

Being the Tuesday that it was, I found myself randomly searching for some of my favorite things on Etsy yesterday.  In the search box, I typed in “typography” (a top 5 fave of mine).  Almost immediately, JavaJaneDesigns shop caught my eye.

Her shop is full of interesting, eye-catching photographs (all black and white) that form specific letters of the alphabet through their architecture.  And then I came across the most perfect gift:

Imagine the unique-ness and memory of opening up this customized gift.  How could you not hang this on your wall?  The pictures could spell out their new last name, you can include their two first names and even a cute “Est. Dec. 21, 2012″.  It comes customized, matted, and framed and right now it’s only $84.  Love it!
Alright, I’m off to a Zumba class – Special thanks to JavaJaneDesigns for creating such a cute item for me to find!

eye love brows

04.10.2010 / Uncategorized / one comment

I came across this article while looking through one of my favorite sites: www.bridesmag.com.  It’s all about your eyebrows and what the heck to do with them.  As someone who used to tweeze/pluck way too much of my eyebrows away, I have this advice for you.  Your eyebrows are shaped the way they are for a reason.  They are part of what makes your face YOUR FACE.  You can always trim them down a little and shape them, but stay true to who you are.

“Beautiful brows are the ultimate eye enhancers. To ensure that yours look their best, know the skinny about the different methods. Sania Vucetaj of Sania’s Brow Barin New York City gaveBRIDES magazine the lowdown:

Tweezing

Tweezers are used to remove individual hairs. Gentle on skin, precision plucking allows you to achieve a neat arch that’s easy to maintain between professional appointments. Get an expert shaping once, then follow that line when you need a touch-up.

Waxing

A thin layer of warm wax is spread on the skin. Then a muslin strip is pressed down and ripped off quickly, in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Youch! Though it’s over quickly—five minutes, tops, takes care of both brows—there’s a chance of irritation. If you have bushy brows, the smarting may be well worth it, since you’re left with supersmooth skin. When your arches grow in (it takes about three to four weeks), the hair will be fine and much easier to remove.

Threading

This ancient Indian method, which removes hair by manipulating a double strand of twisted thread, can be painful. (Definitely don’t try this at home.) The reward for enduring the 10-minute session: neatly manicured brows and nonirritated skin.

A note from Danielle:  Threading is something I’ve always wanted to try, but never did.  The other day I saw what I thought was this process being done in a local mall, so I might check it out more and give you my real thoughts.

Bleaching

As a rule, brows should be colored to match the darkest shade in your hair; it takes about 10 minutes. Just bear in mind that bleaching is harsh—it makes hair follicles fragile, so try to wait six weeks between colorings.

Laser

Warning: This method is not to be used for shaping brows! But if you’ve got pesky hairs growing in between, laser removal offers a near-permanent solution. Most customers will need at least six treatments (totaling about $375). On the pain scale, users describe the experience as a heated snap that’s more uncomfortable than painful. The benefit is that you won’t be red or bumpy afterward, and you can even go in the sun.”

"Eye" love this advice! My husband even commented that far too many women now have colored-pencil lines where their eyebrows should be and could definitely do well to read this!!

  • a dream to be completed

Some of you may know, and then some of you may not (I feel like Alice in Wonderland here…) that one of my lifelong dreams has been to take a warehouse (abandoned, hopefully) and turn it into the most perfect house.  To make this dream about a thousand times better, the Amazing Jay (his new nickname) shares this same passion.

So, where did this idea come from? When I was younger, let’s say 5-ish, my family went to visit distant family out in Massachusetts.  While we were there, we visited a second, possibly third, cousin’s house.  It wasn’t exactly a warehouse, but it was a house that had been completely gutted and opened up to have a huge studio feel.  There were hardly any walls and anywhere you went, you could still be with everybody.  PERFECT!  (IMO)

So I’ve been doing my thing this morning and came across some really awesome warehouse-turned-houses pictures and I thought I’d share.

    Enjoy…

    brewing up some fabulous

    04.05.2010 / Uncategorized / one comment

Greetings and salutations!  Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday weekend. We seemed to be busy, busy, busy – but we had a blast!  Spent some time with Jay and his family and then slept over at my parent’s house for Easter – I just love us!

Anyway, today I spent some time with Wendie over at the Allentown Brew Works on West Hamilton Street.  She gave me the grand tour and also handed me a CD full of beautiful pictures of past events.  Of course, I had to share them with you!

The Brew Works can hold weddings of approximately 200 guests or so and is a great place for a couple to share these types of memories.  The facility provides unique settings with a helpful staff.

The couple and their guests have several options when it comes to planning their wedding, including have a small ceremony on site.  From there, they can enjoy a cocktail hour in some clever different locations.

The above pictured lounge has plenty of comfortable seating and it’s own bar.  It somewhat overlooks the restaurant below, but with plenty of privacy to keep your party separate.  There is also another, more playful lounge area for cocktail area that includes two pool tables and it’s own bar.  From there, the party can go to the beautiful reception area for dinner, more drinks, and dancing.  I will let these pictures do the talking…

A special thank you to Wendie and all the staff at Allentown Brew Works!  Keep up the great work and here’s to happy weddings and happy futures!

    I love us too!

  • why the transition?

On this journey, I’ve gone through many different stages.  I went from jumping with joy on our couch upon deciding to become a planner.  Then, there was the research and going through my certification.  I finally “graduated” and then it was time to start the business.  I had been thinking since the couch jumping what I would call the business, but could not find anything that fit “me”.

After a couple of weeks, I came down to “Fifty Two Productions”, which many of you know.  I even had my business cards and some promo items printed for promoting the business.  But when everything was said and done, I wasn’t completely feeling it.

So here we are.  At daniellepasternak.com – eventually there will be a name in place, maybe a DP Events, or something basic.  But who likes basic?  Not me.  I would like something like Grapefruit Events, or I also liked Ell-events (almost sounds like ‘elephants’).  Ack, so for now.  I’m just me.  And I really like that.
