Getting great advice isn’t always easy in this industry. Different people can pull you in different directions, each telling you something different. As a professional, and someone who’s done a lot of research in the wedding world, this is a great article written by Lehigh Valley wedding photographer, Douglas Benedict. It’s a few GREAT tips about hiring your wedding photographer.
Just to give you a taste, here’s one of my favorite tips from Douglas:
Find a photographer you can stand being around. I’m serious. Brides will spend more time on their wedding day with the photographer than they will the groom. I’m not saying you have to be drinking buddies later but make sure you like being around your photographer.
Now, do me a favor and go check out his blog to read all his tips (there’s only four, it won’t take long – but it’ll be a big help)!
Cheers!

Due to the unexpected snow, I was given a snow day today via Mother Nature. Side note: I say “unexpected” because it seems whenever we are going to get a significant amount of snow, they don’t tell us. Yet, when we are warned about a “huge storm” we barely get a dusting. I’m just saying.
Anyway, I’m always updating and improving upon documents and templates that I use for my clients. Today, I decided that it was time to update the custom timeline that I create for my brides as part of my coordination services. This timeline is distributed among their key vendors and bridal party and it obviously must be pretty!
And just to give you a sneak peek of what I’ve been creating… love it!

So, there’s been a secret project we’ve been working on and I’m so excited to tell you that it involves Style Me Pretty. The actual shoot takes place tomorrow, but some of the crew met to set-up some of the major pieces tonight. And Kristy Rice, Momental Designs, was there snapping some sneak peek pics!

Fun fact about me: I walked across the the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California on my 24th birthday in 2009.
Not necessarily unheard of, I’ll admit. But still something that I think is exciting. Which makes me think, anyone planning a wedding in San Fran and need some help coordinating? I’ll totally go back in a heartbeat!
Happy Valentine’s Day Eve everyone! Looking forward to hearing everyone’s proposal stories!
When it comes to giving your final payment to the musicians for your ceremony, it is the groom’s job to give the payment envelope to the Best Man before the rehearsal. Prior to the start of the rehearsal, it is then the job of the Best Man to give the payment envelope to the leader of the group of musicians (or pianist). Did you know that? Maybe you did, maybe you didn’t – but you do now.
Note: Whether you’d like your Best Man to take care of this or not, always be sure your musicians are paid prior to the wedding date. Unless you want unhappy people with noise-makers in their hand.

In general, I love this Etsy shop. But isn’t this such a cute clutch from DavieandChiyo?

This past weekend, to celebrate the Super Bowl, I headed down to Marshalls Creek with Mr. Blue Eyes to visit the lovely, Lauren Brimhall and her hubby, Sean. Usually when Lauren and I get together, every other word out of our mouths is wedding or bride – go figure.
Anyway, we got to talking about “the kiss”. ”The kiss” is something that always brings a tear to my eye, I’ll admit. But I never put too much thought into it. There’s always the talk about church tongue, and what’s appropriate or not to do in front of Grandma Liz. But Lauren brought up a great point that I knew I had to pass along to you.
HOLD IT FOR 3 to 5 SECONDS!
When you kiss, be sure to stay in that moment (and enjoy it) for at least 3 seconds. Count “1… 2… 3…” if you have to, but just don’t do a quick peck. This gives everyone enough time to snap that picture, including that awesome photographer you hired to capture all those special moments. And if Grandma Liz mentions anything afterwards, just tell her the photographer (or coordinator) made you do it. ;)

I was so intent on making sure our wedding kiss was long enough for our photogs to capture that it lasted a bit more than 3.5 seconds. I was almost mortified seeing how long it lasted on video, but I *do* have some awesome first kiss shots. :)
Awww, you posted it! That’s awesome Danie, thanks for sharing this!
That’s right, Danielle… It’s all in the name of art!
This is such a great tip! Kissing in front of a big crowd makes most people feel like they are kissing way longer than they actually are. Stun the audience and make that first kiss one to remember!
You’re welcome, Lauren! :)
And sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do! (again, sorry Grandma Liz)
