Good bye 2012. Hello 2013.

12.31.2012 / Personal / no comments

On this last day of 2012, I have to (as many other bloggers are, too) say a big hearty good bye to 2012 and a great big hello to 2013. It may have flown by but it was still the same 365… ok, leap year, make that 366… days it always is. But it did seem to fly by, no?

Personally, 2012 was a difficult year. My year started out with some crazy health problems that seemed to last forever. But after having my gallbladder removed as well as a stubborn kidney stone, I’m happy to say that I’m feeling much better. We also lost a very special friend and former groom this summer to Leukemia. To see someone so young (28) struggle with such a terrible disease was heartbreaking, but to see his loved ones suffer as well… man oh man.

I did have some highlights, as well. April had us traveling to Baltimore for the Borrowed Bridal Event hosted by one of our favorite filmmakers, Birdhouse Productions. I also got to have a go at being a “model” for Kristy Rice’s Trellis shoot showing off Pantone’s color of 2012, Tangerine Tango shot by our good friend Amanda of Swoon Over It. We worked on events that were featured in Bridal Guide Magazine, Style Me Pretty, and Bridal Musings. We also found out that we’ll be in The Knot magazine for their 2013 Spring/Summer issue – which is mighty exciting.

I continued to meet some amazing creatives in this industry and was especially excited be a part of this shoot created by Julie of Frosted and Kim Winey Photography up at the adorable Fiddle Lake Farms in Thompson, PA.

We also created a very fun shoot, also by Kim Winey Photography, to hopefully win a scholarship to a wedding planning workshop on the west coast. The shoot was called “Return to Innocence” and featured two young souls and their “dream” wedding. The shoot ended up winning me the FULL scholarship to the program… unfortunately, I wasn’t meant to attend as the workshop ended up getting postponed until 2013. Now there is some crazy drama surrounding it and I don’t know if I even want to go now. But we shall see, right?

Some of my favorite weddings of all time also went down this year. There were so many amazing moments that I think back on with big smiles. Particularly, Jess and Brad’s hilarious first dance, Ashley and Brian’s campy ceremony, Megan and Jeff’s amazing DIY decor and four zillion bottles of flowers (I’m guestimating), Brandon and Mark’s packed dance floor, Molly and Matt’s delicious cupcakes, Vicki and Dave’s last dance of the night to “Send Me On My Way” (my new favorite last dance song), Amanda and Tim’s touching vows, Anneliza and Adam’s sunny ceremony in the middle of a rainy day, Anna and Matt’s granny-chic style and so many more.

I honestly can say that I’m happy to be putting 2012 to bed and really looking forward to 2013. We’ll be going back to some of our favorite venues as well as seeing some new ones. We’ll be traveling everywhere from our Scranton hometown to Gettysburg to Philly to Wilkes Barre to Thompson and more… good thing I drive a Prius, no?

So as we close out this last day of 2012, I wish you all a lovely day and a magical evening (this is one of my favorite nights with Mr. Blue Eyes) and a very happy, healthy and hilarious new year.

Celebrating another 5.0 review from Jessica and Brad

12.14.2012 / Real Weddings / no comments

Jessica and Brad are the type of couples that most wedding pros dream about. Great to work with, amazingly talented and hilariously funny. This stellar duo officially tied the knot on September 22. 2012 on the Arts Youniverse stage in Wilkes Barre followed by one-crazy-shindig at Traver’s Auction House.

From Jessica…

“Danielle is an investment well spent! She is endlessly knowledgable and always available for you to pick her brain. There is a lot to consider when planning a wedding, much I had little or no knowledge of. Danielle had the experience and expertise to help me with all planning woes. She put me at ease knowing I didn’t need to duplicate myself to get everything done right, I could count on her. No worries on your wedding day = priceless”

You are too sweet, Jessica – thank you. Knowing we were able to help you means the world to us! xo.

Fun fact: this was one of those parties that went well into the night. A little birdie told us that after our team packed up and left, there were a few streakers that decided to make an appearance on the dance floor – oh my! Said streakers were welcomed with open arms.

Real Wedding: Amanda + Tim | 5.0 Review

10.15.2012 / Real Weddings / no comments

This past September, we had the honor of working with a fantastic couple, Amanda and Tim. They found us through their photographer, Jeff Dietz and I’m so grateful they did!

view more stunning images from Jeff Dietz here in their storybook

Recently, Amanda left us the sweetest review on WeddingWire and I couldn’t be happier to share with you here:

First and foremost, if I were to sit here and say all of the amazing things I could possibly say about Danielle Pasternak and her team, we would be here all day. However, I’ll start here. When I first met Danielle a year before our wedding, my ideas were all over the place and I was kind of stressed out about my endless possibilities. However, I remember she gave me the best advice. She said, “Your wedding day is going to be all about you and Tim. Make sure your theme or décor is exactly what you have dreamed about your entire life and represents both yours and Tim’s relationship”. After much thinking and planning we decided on “the key to happiness” we wanted a fairytale, romantic, look to our wedding.

Danielle pointed us in all of the right directions – even referred us to the most amazing and professional vendors. She truly made our day so special. We are so lucky and grateful to have had her with us the entire day. It was nice to know that anything we needed, ANYTHING, we were at ease knowing Danielle and her team were there to take care of it. Her ever-famous timeline was so detail-oriented and definitely made the day so smooth for everyone involved. She answered every call, text, email in minutes.

From the beginning of planning until the very end, Danielle made everything absolutely perfect and the wedding day was flawless. Not only is she very organized and reliable, but she has this comfortable and calming feeling about her that almost makes you feel as though you have known her all of your life. Not only did I go to find a wedding coordinator for my wedding, I came out with a friend.

Thank you, Danielle and team from the bottom of our hearts. For the first time I didn’t have a care in the world and really just got to enjoy my day. I am such a control freak so anyone who knows me, knows that doesn’t happen too much! ☺ I honestly cannot recommend Danielle enough. I feel so very lucky to have found her and honored that she was able to be a part of our day!

Real Wedding: Ashley + Brian married August 25th | captured by Alexandra Whitney Photography

09.19.2012 / Real Weddings / one comment

I am SO excited to share these photos with you of Ashley and Brian’s Bear Creek Campground wedding last month. Beautifully captured by Alexandra Whitney Photography, there is no surprise why I immediately added her to our list of recommended vendors. Not only was she super-sweet to work with but also produced these stunning images.

Ashley and Brian are the type of couple that wedding pros dream about. Crazy in love, super fun and they just loved being surrounded by family and friends. Plus, they are adorable! And for a rustic-camper-girl… Ashley looked breathtaking.

Love this first look spot! Great choice Alex!

Ashley’s Maid of Honor was a girl after my own heart: she loves Broadway too! Love the variety of colors on their dresses, right?

Julie from Frosted is another one of our highly recommended vendors and you can EASILY see why below. Check out this killer cake styled to match the woodsy surroundings. I also “heard” it tasted amazing! (and by “heard”, I mean that I tried some of every flavor… shhhh!)

See more amazing photos here in Alex’s blog!

And we are so thankful for the kindest words from the bride:

“I don’t know how to express how amazing Danielle and her team were. From the start, Danielle spent time on understanding what our vision was for the wedding and how we wanted the day to go. As the planning process continued she was always available to help in any way.

“Our wedding was at a campground and we were responsible for bringing in all the vendors, tables, decorations, linens, china…. (honestly the list could go on and on). She seamlessly coordinated all the vendors and beautifully executed an idea that was in my mind. Not once did she blink at a request or an extra thing put on the TO DO list. Danielle is a true professional; her attitude, work ethic, and dedication to her clients is obvious.

“My husband and I were able to enjoy the entire day because of her and her team. The only thing I worried on that day was if my lipstick looked okay and that was because of her hard work. Hiring Danielle was by far the smartest investment for our wedding.”

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of spending the day at Bear Creek Campground near Wilkes Barre, PA. Ashley and Brian’s wedding celebration was full of  family, friends, laughter, mismatched napkins and a pig roast! And Alexandra Whitney was there capturing every moment including these sneak peeks below!

Enjoy your Labor Day Weekend everyone! Just a reminder, we will be unavailable for most of Monday and Tuesday due to the Fiddle Lake Farm Open House (you need to check this place out!) and a top-secret photo shoot on Tuesday. A Weekend Recap

    08.19.2012 / Tips + Advice / no comments

One thing I love about Sundays is they are usually the day after a great wedding. I’ve said some bittersweet goodbyes to my newly married couples and it’s time to start focusing that energy on next weekend’s couple-to-be. But this Sunday feels differently than I thought it would.

Less than a month ago, I received a call asking if I was available for an August 18th (of 2012) wedding. I was and agreed to meet with the couple to chat about their big day. After our chat, I discovered they weren’t my typical couple, they were still very nice but we didn’t have the same “click” like I normally get with my clients. But this couple was in a bind, needed the help and I was happy to jump on board when they asked me to.

Although we didn’t click in the beginning, I was incredibly surprised to see how well things went, particularly on their wedding day (err… yesterday). There some hiccups and unavoidable situations, but at the end of it all I learned some great things and wanted to share them here because, well, what better place to do it then publicly on the internet, right?

a quick instagrm shot (by moi) before dinner began

first. The wedding was at the Riverview Country Club in Easton, PA. I’ve never worked with this venue but I will GLADLY work with them again. Incredibly efficient, pleasant to work with, flexible and their food was excellent. I snagged one of their bridal packets to review later today and I’m very excited to be adding them to my list of recommended venues.

second. I do not like “chairs with clothes” as one of my clients states. This is just a personal thing for me, but it seems like they make a nice first impression but can get messy as soon as a guest sits in them. Plus, when I think of “chairs with clothes” it freaks me out a bit.

third. I have a great assistant. I was so grateful yesterday to have such a responsible and professional person on my team – truly a proud moment for me. She was on the ball, ready to work and positive throughout the entire day. EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for.

fourth. I love my job. My (new) clients gave me such a big hug at the end of the night. They were happy with how the day went and were grateful for everything I had done. So I learned even though we didn’t click immediately, we had a very successful day and they were HAPPY. <—- That is always my end goal and I honestly can’t imagine doing anything else that would make me so happy.

fifth. Don’t forget to pack the walkie talkies. Yep, I forgot my secret-service style earpieces at home on the charger. We were fine for this wedding since everything was in one building and close in proximity. But lesson learned. Double check my bag for everything.

Well, I’m off to get ready for next weekend and get out of my pajamas (lazy Sunday morning anyone??). I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend and what it holds. Above all else, be happy.

Real Wedding Recap: Anna + Matt

    07.30.2012 / Real Weddings / one comment

To say that I absolutely adore this couple is quite the understatement. They were a pleasure to work with, coordinate for and become great friends with. It’s couples like this that make me feel “oh so lucky”…

I recommend grabbing some coffee, tea, or drink of choice and enjoy these photos by Jessica Ames Photography.

Photos of me in action seem to be few and far between, mainly because I like to work where I’m not really seen. But this photo is a favorite of mine! For another MAJOR favorite…well, keep on scrolling.

These two littles ones were not only precious, but very well behaved. What more could I ask for?

How about a third little one who stole the show with his “here comes the bride” burlap banner?!

This photo BEYOND warms my heart. Anna chose to walk independently down the aisle and right before she was set to walk, she turned to me and “Will you help me down the hill?” Naturally, I’m always happy to help and guests couldn’t see me from this spot, but I was honored to help her take these steps and so happy to see them captured by the photographer. This girl is my idol and I just adore her.

Love these mismatched bridesmaids dresses. Each one matched the girl’s personality but still fit with the vibe of the day.

How cute is this cake topper? A panda and astronaut… adorable.

We also had the fun task of maintaining and restocking their candy buffet all night with some delicious sweets!

Books, teacups, candles and peach flowers filled up the room at General Potters Farm – all designed by the couple.

Maggpie Vintage Rentals also made the trip to State College to set up a great lounge for Anna and Matt.

Anna and Matt: You rock. Nuff said.

    xo,
