Last May, I had the opportunity to work with the duo of Lauren Fair Photography on a very DIY wedding in Reading, PA. Since then, I’ve had a blast following along on their travels and of course, checking out their work. Now, it’s time for you to meet them, too.
Hello. Who are you?
Hi! We’re Lauren + Tim Fair, a husband and wife wedding photography team located halfway in between NYC and Philly, in Pennsburg PA. Tim’s from North Wales, and Lauren grew up in Collegeville, and we stayed local because we love how close we are to major cities, the beach, the mountains, and our families! We shoot about 50-60 weddings a year, plus engagements, and absolutely love it!
Who or what got you started in the industry?
Tim loved shooting street + skate photography back in high school, and Lauren was always the “picture girl” in high school! Halfway through college, I (Lauren) traveled to Italy for the first time and bought my first DSLR camera. I absolutely fell in love with shooting couples on the street and beautiful scenery, and that was the turning point. Although I majored in business and communications, I started asking family + friends to model for me, and realized I had found my passion. Once we launched Lauren Fair Photography, it quickly grew to the size of needing two full time people, which is when Tim joined fulltime as well. We’ve been shooting together fulltime for 3 years now.
What is your favorite part about being in the wedding world?
We adore traveling and meeting new people, which we get to do both of in the wedding world! Weddings are so unique — they’re these beautiful celebrations filled with family members from across the country, gorgeous details, so much love and emotion, and the most amazing part — two people who chose each other out of everyone else in the world. Our style is so photojournalistic and creative, which is perfect for these big parties full of emotion, wild dance moves, tearful cermeonies, sweet moments between fathers and daughters, and the one crazy uncle dancing with everyone in sight. :)
Besides weddings, are there any other special events that you service?
Boudoir sessions! They are so much fun.
Ok, we all know I’m a big fan of yellow. What’s your favorite color?
As a photographer, where do you go to be inspired?
We are blessed to be able to travel a lot, which is an incredible source of inspiration! We also are really musical, and get inspired from writing or creating other non-photographic outlets. Italy, California, and Paris are three of our favorite places for inspiration. I also love reading design + fashion blogs — street photography is the best.
What sets you apart from other fellow photographers?
I think we have such a personalized approach, and our couples feel that. We want to work with people we feel like could be friends, and never try to treat anyone like we’re just the paid vendor showing up to do our job. We truly care about creating fun + romantic + stylish images for our couples! We encourage our couples to be silly and fun together on their engagement shoot, and we do that by building relationships and helping them to trust us.
Whether you’re single, married, divorced, widowed… we all have words of advice when it comes to relationships. What is your advice to couples tying the knot?
Remember not to get so caught up in the wedding details that you lose focus on the marriage! A wedding is just the very first day of your entire life together, so invest in the wedding planning process together, have fun with it, and ultimately remember you’ll be married at the end of the day, no matter what! (Also, hire a wedding coordinator!! ;)
Aside from weddings, what are some other hobbies/hidden talents/secret powers?
Travel is our main other passion! Also, Tim leads worship + plays guitar at our church, Lauren plays piano + loves to DIY random projects for the house (which is in a constant state of redecoration :) Also, I’m a major bargain shopper!
Speaking of super powers, if you could choose to have any, what would you pick?
Finally, how do we connect with you?
