Creative Spotlight: Monachetti Weddings

One of the greatest perks of my job is that I get to work with some freakin’ talented people. Designers, florists, photographers, caterers, you name it. To be in the wedding world, you have to not only have a great love for what you do but an immense love for the industry. You have to find creative ways to show off the love of two brilliant people and for some, it’s a copy-and-paste matter. For others, like Monachetti Weddings, it requires individual attention to each event and a focus on that specific couple. This is why we love them and asked to pick their brain a bit.

This week, Michael, owner of Monachetti, shared his thoughts on his craft, his business and of course, what type of burger he’d be. Enjoy…

Hello. Who are you?

Michael: My name is Michael Eller, and I own Monachetti. I am originally from Bowie, MD and currently run a home office in Annapolis, MD.

Who or what got you started in the industry?

Michael: People often ask how I got started shooting weddings, and truthfully the answer is a friend. She was getting married and suggested I shoot her wedding since she knew I had a creative bug, and passion for business. At that time (over 10 years ago) wedding videography was not super well known and there wasn’t a huge market for it.

What is your favorite part about being in the wedding world?

Michael: I love this question because it’s an easy one! The answer is twofold. 1. It’s always different, every weekend. And 2. It’s truly a priceless job to have. When you get to see two people come together on their wedding day, it’s magical. As cheesy as it may sound, there’s not a wedding that goes by that I don’t get a huge smile on my face every time they say “I do.”

Besides weddings, are there any other special events that you service?

Michael: Yes, I actually shoot and edit a ton. I have a hand in the commercial side of video production too.

As a filmmaker, where do you go to be inspired?

Michael: My wife will tell you a spend many nights (maybe too many) out by the fire pit (ipad, cigar, and whiskey in hand). This is a favorite spot where I think and plan.

What sets you apart from other fellow videographers?

Michael: This is a great question, especially in a market that is growing fast. I think what sets Monachetti apart is our style. Style, by definition, is “a particular way in which something is done, created, or performed.” We don’t pretend to be the best around. There are so many talented videographers, even in our immediate area. We do however take great pride in how we get it done. We have a system, we have an approach, and we are super relational. This has been working for us. Our clients usually end up becoming our friends, and we stay connected years after our product has been delivered. I think that’s what makes us unique.

Whether you’re single, married, divorced, widowed… we all have words of advice when it comes to relationships. What is your advice to couples tying the knot?

Michael: Be selfless.

If your company were a hamburger, what kind of burger would you be and why?

Michael: Bunless, thin layer of cheese, and just the right amount of seasoning. No sauces, joint gets messy.

Aside from weddings, what are some of your other hobbies/hidden talents/secret powers?

Michael: I love to travel, and spend time with my wife, and our Golden Retriever. Right now, things are busy! So if I’m not working, I’m relaxing. ;)

Speaking of super powers, if you could choose to have any, what would you pick?

Michael: Fly!

Finally, how do we connect with you?
