Creative Spotlight: Nina Lily Photography

Through the amazing powers of Facebook, I have the opportunity to meet some truly amazing artists in this wedding world. One of these amazing people comes from the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia area through Christina Campbell and Nina Lily Photography. Enjoy her interview below, but definitely be sure to check out her amazing!  I just love this chick’s style.

Tell us about yourself. And your business, obviously.

Nina Lily Photography is my boutique wedding photography studio based out of the Philadelphia area and the Lehigh Valley. I specialize in Wedding Event Photography but do everything from Boudoir to Family Portraits. I consider myself a fine art photographer and love working with non-silver photography processes and encaustic, or wax and oil pieces. I’m a one-woman show who gets a lot of support from my husband and family. NLP officially opened in 2009 and I am absolutely in love with what I do!

When and how did your professional journey begin?

After college I began assisting an established wedding photographer; working with a mentor helped me to navigate my own unique wedding style melding high-end wedding imagery with a fine art aesthetic. Although, it wasn’t until after I met my husband that opening my boutique studio made sense. Once I opened myself to love, I could perceive those special, intimate & awesome wedding moments with much more clarity and vision.

In your opinion, what sets you apart from other wedding photographers?

I call my style “artistic documentation”. My passion lies in creating modern pieces with a vintage look. I am extremely nostalgic myself, so I would consider my style: Modern Nostalgia. My fine art imagery has a vintage look to it and I try to incorporate that feel into the final wedding imagery. Mainly though, I strive to be a storyteller because I want couples to look at my images and have the photos trigger memories that take them back to the emotion of their wedding day. I look at every event as a special collaboration and spend months achieving this.

Besides weddings, are there any other special events that you photograph?

I love photographing intimate moments of life. I often photograph Mitzvahs and other family gatherings. I also offer intimate baby bump shoots and tasteful, private boudoir sessions. Although I don’t push baby and boudoir services, I look at them as an extension of my fine art work.

Whether you’re single, married, divorced, or in love – we all have wise words when it comes to relationships. What’s your bit of advice to couples?

Have fun always! Laugh, love, listen. I recently got married myself and strive to experience every moment as an adventure. It’s going to take some work… but love rocks!

What’s your favorite location you’ve photographed at, so far? What’s your dream location?

I always love shooting in the South West. The scenery is breathtaking and every image seems like a scene from a western from my childhood. However, my dream location has gotten a lot closer to home in the past few months. I want to shoot a wedding featuring Bethlehem Steel as the backdrop. The blast furnaces were my first photography subjects growing up… I have so many ideas!

One of my favorite colors is yellow… what’s yours?

Something borrowed, something blue!

Not including photography, what’s another one of your passions?

I can’t live without traveling; I’m in love with exploring! I also love my bike, my husband’s ‘73 Imapala and angel hair pasta in a vodka cream!

Finally, what’s the best way to get in touch with you?
