Out-Of-Town Guest Bags for your Wedding Weekend

Today, I want to talk to you about out-of-town guest bags that will welcome your guests that are coming for your wedding. While they are not necessary, it definitely adds a personal and welcoming touch to the start of their visit. This is one of those times where you should “put yourself in their shoes” – wouldn’t you love the added touch?

So, what are some ideas for your welcome bags?

  • Welcome Note – You want your guests to know that you are happy they traveled to share in your celebration. A quick “thank you” to welcome them is a great start.

  • Treats – Who doesn’t love snacks? You can include a tasty homemade treat, a favorite pick from a local shop, or something that really sums up the area that they are visiting. Or, you can also give them a mini preview of the food that’s to come at your wedding. Just make sure nothing needs to be refrigerated.

  • Hydration – Adding some bottled water is a great idea. If you’re looking for something more eco-friendly than traditional plastic bottles, the Green Bride Guide suggests using a company like Belu who sells water in 100% compostable corn-based plastic (except the cap).

  • Pampering – Items that allow guests to feel pampered are also a great addition. Considering including some bath salts, lotion, and maybe a bath sponge.

  • Seasonal – Any type of season that you are having your wedding requires different necessities. For the winter, include some hot chocolate packets, fuzzy socks and maybe a moisturizing lip balm. For the Spring, bugs are everywhere and the weather is temperamental, so maybe include some bug spray and a travel umbrella. Summer weddings always call for sunscreen. And for a Fall wedding, throw in a pumpkin-spice candle and some apple pie.

  • Travel Map – I possible, a map with some local favorites is a great touch. Some suggested restaurants, places to see, museums to check out if they have time… all great ways to make their stay even more enjoyable.

  • Personal – In the end, no one knows your guests better than you. If your Aunt Kathy is a gardener, include some heirloom seeds from your area. Maybe your Uncle John golfs… you get the idea. Keep it simple, but thoughtful. And nothing too extravagant or large, or it may be left behind with no room to fit it in their luggage coming home.

  • Hangover Kit – If you plan on having alcohol at your wedding, a little hangover kit will be a HUGE hit amongst your guests.

Remember, the key to “perfect” bag is including things that are useful, personal, thoughtful and functional – and don’t over-do it.

Happy Planning everyone!
