Podcast Co-Hosting, Bridal Shows and Award Season
Hi friends! 2016 is here and I’ve got some exciting updates to share from DPNAK HQ.
You may have heard, but with the launch of newest project, Put A Ring On It Podcast (more on that in a second), I’ve changed the regular schedule of the blog from every Wednesday at 8am to… when I have something worth writing about. My hope is to keep it around 1-2 times per month. For those that have been such amazing followers of the advice blog, I would strongly urge and recommend you check out Put A Ring On It.
Put A Ring On It Podcast
My first and most exciting adventure has been the launch of the Put A Ring On It podcast. I have the honor of co-hosting this podcast alongside my good friend and colleague, Daniel Moyer of Daniel Moyer Photography, and we are bringing couples planning a wedding bi-weekly tips, stories and downright sensible wedding planning advice.
Here’s our most recent episode (as of today) and we’re talking about “How To Pick Your Wedding Pros”. Give a listen and if you like what you hear, feel free to subscribe in iTunes and leave us a review!
Speaking of iTunes, when we first started talking about this podcast, one of Dan and I’s goals was to make it to the “New & Noteworthy” section of iTunes.
New podcasts have the first eight weeks of launching to make it to this coveted spot and SOMEHOW (a.k.a. through a lot of hard work and hustle) we made it to iTunes’ New And Noteworthy section within just a few HOURS of launching!!
Thank you to everyone who has supported us and for cheering us on!
Bridal Shows
Another thing I wanted to chat about was bridal shows. It’s bridal show season here in Pennsylvania and I really should’ve written this about two weeks ago because some great shows have gone down in the past two weekends. Luckily, my friend, Kevin at Rockin’ Ramaley, is ah-mazing at keeping track of upcoming shows, so this list is 100% stolen from his Facebook page:
Saturday, January 17, 2016 at Hotel Bethlehem
Saturday, January 24, 2016 B104 Show at Holiday Inn Fogelsville
Saturday, February 21, 2016 at Green Pond Country Club
Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Allentown Brew Works
Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Hanover Grande Ballroom
Saturday, March 6, 2016 American Bridal Show at Rauch Fieldhouse/Lehigh University
I’m currently considering jumping on board for the March 6th American Bridal Show at Rauch, but I’m not sure yet. Either way, these shows are GREAT for finding your DJ, florist, baker and more. Just remember that not ALL pros are at these shows.
Award Season
Finally, I want to let you know that it’s that time of the year again: Award Season! I’m not talking about the Golden Globes here (which, don’t get me started on everyone flipping out about Jennifer Lawrence busting chops with the reporter on his cell phone, she’s obviously just being snarky… but I digress).
I’m talking about the biggies: WeddingWire and The Knot.
It’s around this time each year that you’ll start to see vendors shouting from the rooftops that they’ve won WeddingWire’s Couples’ Choice Award and The Best Of The Knot. I’m really happy to say that we’ve won WeddingWire’s award again this year!
What I want to remind you, during this lovely time of year when we’re the farthest possible from Christmas, that while these awards are GREAT, it’s important to remember that not all pros have the opportunity to win these awards. Even if they are the BEST company on the planet, but they don’t have a “vendor account” with WeddingWire or The Knot, there is no way for them to win this award. Speaking mostly for these two companies, the awards are given based on the number and quality of reviews a business receives.
My point here is that when looking at a company, be sure to look at ALL aspects of the business, not just who is touting they’ve won one of these awards. I got more in detail about this topic last year (and got a not-so-nice phone call from The Knot because of it), so feel free to dive in if you want to learn more about these suckers.
Alright, I think that’s all the updates I’ve got for you at this point. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter or follow along in my adventures on Instagram. Talk soon!!
