Artist Spotlight: Ashley Leoncini – hair stylist and makeup artist

I had the pleasure of sharing the dance stage with this lovely lady and I find it to be no shock that we both ended up in the wedding industry. Today, I introduce you to Ashley Leoncini, of Philly Hair and Makeup Co: a fellow Scranton native who has spread her roots in Philly and is doing amazing work in the hair and makeup field. We also got the opportunity to chat for a bit on her blog, so make sure you check that out, too!

Hello. Who are you?

My name is Ashley Leoncini and I run an on-location wedding hair and makeup company based in Philadelphia. I am originally from Scranton PA and have been in the industry for almost 7  years.

Who or what got you started in the industry?

I began my career at wedding superhouse Alexander’s Salon and Spa in Scranton. When I came to Philly I wanted to start my own on-location service. My boyfriend, with his fresh new Babson MBA, helped me get the business off the ground and continues to be the company’s and my #1 supporter.

What is your favorite part about being in the wedding world?

I seriously just love making brides pretty. When a bride takes the final look in the mirror and I can see on her face that she feels beautiful … my job is done. To know I helped transform them into the best version of themselves on this important day is just an awesome experience.

Besides weddings, are there any other special events that you service?

I do hair and makeup for prom & bachelorette parties. My favorite specialty though is Indian weddings.

As a hair stylist & make-up artist, where do you go to be inspired?

I’m constantly on pinterest  & instagram finding new styles. Thebeautydepartment.com is probably my favorite daily blog, but sometimes inspiration just comes as I’m playing with someone’s hair who doesn’t know what they want… all of a sudden I just get an idea, go for it and some of my best work has come out that way.

What sets you apart from other fellow artists?

I think it’s my ability to re-create a picture. I will give the client exactly what they want. I offer advice but ultimately don’t try to change bride’s minds and I’m really good at seeing something in a photo and making it work on my client.

Whether you’re single, married, divorced, widowed… we all have words of advice when it comes to relationships. What is your advice to couples tying the knot?

Always remind yourself why you started dating that person, fell in love with them, said YES to them and are marrying them. If you never lose sight of that your relationship will always grow.

Aside from weddings, what are some other hobbies/hidden talents/secret powers?

I love dance. I’ve danced all my life and now have transitioned into teaching. I currently teach Jazz at a studio in New Jersey.
